leading Irish fiddler performs solo

A sparkling, lyrical fiddler, Kevin Burke is one of the finest, most influential players in music today. Born and raised in London, Kevin picked up his first fiddle at age eight. In his teen years he discovered Irish music and sought out Ireland's masters during his family's regular vacations to its native County Sligo. Though he counts the masters of the Sligo style as primary influences, he also points to fiddlers from counties Clare and Ulster as well as to the wealth of Irish musicians on the London scene as important in his development. He first came to America in 1972, to work on Arlo Guthrie's album, Last of the Brooklyn Cowboys. He returned to Ireland for the following two years, working with Christy Moore, the great Irish singer-songwriter, before working in succession with two of the most influential Irish groups of all time, the Bothy Band and Patrick Street. Re-settling in Oregon in the late 1980s, Kevin formed Open House, his short-lived but critically acclaimed traditional music project with American musicians. Tonight Kevin explores the art of solo, unaccompanied fiddling, sailing through tunes drawn from throughout his remarkable career, including selections from his recent album, In Concert (Green Linnet).
