Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse New Home Project
A New Home for the Freight
Right smack in the center of downtown Berkeley's booming Arts District, we're building a home where roots and traditional music can thrive.
A welcoming performance space with the capacity to embrace all the artists we love and treasure . . . an innovative "green" building with a warm wooden interior, comfy seating, and great acoustics . . . a gathering place where we can expand our offerings to the community, with classrooms for music education . . . a cafe with good strong coffee . . .
The Freight and Salvage Coffee House has reached an extraordinary moment in its history. We are on the verge of building and moving into a spacious new performance facility in the vital and developing Arts District of downtown Berkeley.
With the generous support of the city of Berkeley and other government funders, foundations, corporations, and lovers of folk and traditional music, we are in the process of transforming the property we own in downtown Berkeley into one of the most effective performance and educational venues in Northern California.
Our New Home will have a performance room with 440 seats plus additional space for a cafe, classrooms for music education, a folk and traditional music archive, and critically needed office facilities.
The new location will provide a superior level of access for all Bay Area residents. Next door is a five-story parking garage and one-half block away is the Downtown Berkeley BART station.
