In a high-spirited show celebrating the release of her debut CD, Loango, Nell Robinson serves up fresh, honky-tonk-infused bluegrass and country, backed by an all-star bluegrass and country band featuring Jim Nunally, Keith Little, Andrew Conklin, and other very special guests. Rollicking energy, sweet harmonies, and hot pickin' distinguish this band, which showcases Nell's warm, distinctive vocals and sunny stage charisma.
When Hilary Perkins decided to pursue her dream of a singing career, she took the name of her grandmother, Nell Robinson, to honor her Alabama roots. In a similar vein, the songs on her new album are a sentimental look back at a simpler time and place, from the beautiful harmonies of the old gem "When My Blue Moon Turns To Gold Again" to the gospel strains of "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing" to the spicy Hazel Dickens tune "Scraps From Your Table," and much more. If we're really lucky, Nell might even treat us to a sample of her "barnyard yodeling" modeled on the 1930s country superstars, the Dezurik Sisters, complete with hen cackles and a superbly fun vintage bounce.
