Hailing from Anchorage, Alaska, Bearfoot's fresh, energetic sound embraces traditional bluegrass, jazz, and blues. This rising young quintet's powerful, emotive vocals, moving arrangements, and terrific playing have gained them fans at festivals across the US, including Wintergrass, Rockygrass, and the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, where they were awarded top honors at the 2001 Band Competition (previous winners include Nickel Creek and the Dixie Chicks).
Kate Hamre, Mike Mickelson, Jason Norris, Angela Oudean, and newest member Odessa Jorgensen (formerly of the Biscuit Burners) concoct a truly tasty mix featuring three-part harmonies, twin fiddles, hot mandolin and guitar, and acoustic bass. Tonight's performance features numbers from their new CD, Doors and Windows, a collection described by Bearfoot as "steeped in the bluegrass music tradition but unafraid to befriend other genres."
