contemporary jazz trio
Door 7:00 P.M., Music 8:00 P.M. | Purchase advance tickets: $18.50

Han Bennink, Michael Moore, and Will Holshouser mix free improvisation with all kinds of tunes in their jazz performances that range "from crisp Ellingtonian swing into cacophonous group improvisation" (the New York Times), pyrotechnic improvisational journeys thick with whimsical asides.

One of Europe's best known jazz drummers, 2008 European Jazz Prize winner Han Bennink was one of the pivotal figures in early European free jazz, perhaps best known for his groundbreaking role in the Instant Composers Pool (ICP). He has also performed with Sonny Rollins, Eric Dolphy, and Dexter Gordon. Californian reed man Michael Moore relocated to Amsterdam in 1982; as co-members of ICP and Trio Clusone, he and Han have developed a rich vocabulary and a stirring freedom of expression. The optimal "third man" for this trio is the inventive Brooklyn-based accordionist, Will Holshouser.
