award winning bluegrass bassist and her band
Door 7:30 P.M., Music 8:00 P.M. | Purchase advance tickets: $18.50

Describing the sound of the New Hip, Missy Raines says: "I once had a dream about the father of Bluegrass, Bill Monroe, pop master Joe Jackson, and jazz giant Ray Brown. They were friends and got together and jammed and it was a whole new kind of music, it was very cool. Then I woke up and knew what I had to do."

In the spirit of this dream, Missy's latest musical adventures across the bounds of bluegrass are daring, virtuosic, and loaded with groove. The New Hip—mandolinist Ethan Ballinger, resonator guitarist Michael Witcher, and guitarist Dillon Hodges—is an impressive assemblage of talent with the chops to travel the challenging territory Missy maps out as if it was a walk in the park.

A six-time winner of the International Bluegrass Music Association's Bass Player of the Year award, West Virginia-born Missy has made a deep impact on the bluegrass world with her solo outings, not to mention her work with dozens of famed musicians including long-time membership in the Claire Lynch Band and duo playing with Jim Hurst. Missy and the New Hip recently released their debut CD, Inside Out (Compass).
