Join us for an evening of bluegrass and roots music honoring American service members and veterans of all wars. We'll be thinking in particular of those currently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, along with veterans of those conflicts and their families, during this wide-ranging evening of music reflecting soldiers' experiences, and those of their families and friends. Performing songs dating from before the American Revolution to conflicts of the present day, is a stellar lineup of Bay Area performers, with Soldier Stories Band and Laurie Lewis & Tom Rozum. Proceeds from the show will go to health projects run by Disability Rights Advocates and Swords to Plowshares.
Soldier Stories Band features vocalist Nell Robinson (Nell Robinson & Red Level), Mayne Smith (Mayne Smith & Johnny Harper) on guitar and dobro, Harry Yaglijian on guitar and mandolin, bassist Dave Gooding (Donner Mountain Bluegrass Band), with guest artists Johnny Harper (Smith-Harper Band) on guitar, and Jonathan Schiele (Red Level) on banjo.
Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum showcase impressive vocal talents, backed by their fabulous fiddle, mandolin, and guitar. Laurie's songwriting and crystal-clear singing have brought her a Grammy and two International Bluegrass Music Association Awards for Female Vocalist of the Year. Tom adds his own sparkling musicianship and wry humor, creating an irresistible mix.
By joining us tonight and bringing your friends, you have the opportunity to enjoy good music, reflect on our relationship to war, and honor those who have served us and their country, often at great sacrifice. Over half a million veterans still await promised mental health care. Thirty-three percent of all homeless men in the US are veterans. They need our help.
