A truly amazing lineup of Berkeley High's swingin-est alumni take the stage at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School for an afternoon concert that has to be heard to be believed! Convened by Peter Apfelbaum to honor the rich musical legacy of Charles Hamilton, who has taught and led the award-winning Berkeley High School Jazz Ensemble for 27 years, the show features a knockout selection of BHS alumni in never-before-seen combos. With local jazz radio personality Greg Bridges as MC, three decades of jazz ensemble graduates take the stage, with proceeds going to benefit the Berkeley Schools Jazz Program.

Featured in the program are: Mike Aaberg, Ravi Abcarian, Ambrose Akinmusire, Peter Apfelbaum, Mariel Austin, Will Bernard, Steven Bernstein, Cale Brandley, Billy Buss, Dave Ellis, Rodney Franklin, Kito Gamble, Peter Hargreaves, Toby Hargreaves, Colin Hogan, Erik Jekabson, Jessica Jones, Josh Jones, Yanos Lustig, Marian Martinez, Hitomi Oba, and Dayna Stephens . . . and who knows who else may show up?

Director of the Berkeley High School Jazz Ensemble since 1981, Charles Hamilton has dedicated himself to leading youthful artists to new musical heights. Under his leadership, the innovative Berkeley High School program has gained widespread recognition and produced dozens of world-renowned musicians.

Peter Apfelbaum (The New York Hieroglyphics), this show's musical director, is a pianist, tenor saxophonist, drummer, and composer known for his unique fusion of world music influences and the aesthetic of the jazz avant-garde.
