Adored by Freightgoers from his years as lead singer with the inimitable Old Blind Dogs, Jim Malcolm is unquestionably one of the finest Scots traditional singers of his generation. He has a beautiful, rich voice and the powerful ability to deliver vibrant yet purely authentic-sounding music, whether what he's singing is an ancient Scots song in the original vernacular, Jim Malcolm lyrics set to an old familiar tune, or one of his completely original efforts.
Tonight, the Perthshire native takes a solo turn on our stage with his guitar and harmonica, presenting selections from his latest CD, Acquaintance, a collection of Robert Burns songs. A noted songwriter in his own right ever since gaining acclaim with his first solo album, Sconeward, Jim went on to win the Songwriter of the Year award from the Scots Trad Music Society in 2004. He will surely include plenty of his own original classics like "Lochanside" and "Battle of Waterloo" tonight, as well as some Old Blind Dogs favorites.
