Teresa Trull and Barbara Higbie are easily the most exuberant and multi-talented duo in any musical style—or more accurately, in many musical styles. Ranging over terrain from blues and gospel to folk, rock, and jazz, the pair celebrate 25 years of whipping up fabulously satisfying musical meals together with a concert that features numbers old and new, including selections from their duo CDs, Playtime and Unexpected.
A fiery vocal dynamo, Teresa combines a larger-than-life gospel/soul voice, a gutsy blues style, hilarious onstage banter, and topnotch songwriting talent. In addition to her solo work and her duos with Barbara and with women's music star Cris Williamson, Teresa has parlayed her sharp producing instincts on scores of albums, and has received the Best Producer of an Independent Album at the New York Music Awards.
An exuberant fiddle and piano virtuoso, as well as the possessor of a lovely singing voice and a stage presence like a ray of sunshine, Barbara Higbie combines technical brilliance and pure joie de vivre. With a background that includes classical piano and violin studies, immersion in the musical culture of Ghana, and acclaimed collaborations with the jazz-folk-bluegrass band Montreux, Barbara makes music that is lyrical, playful, and inventive. Her most recent solo CD, last year's Alive in Berkeley, was recorded live at the Freight.
