Three songwriters bring their impressive repertoires to the Freight for an evening of superlative music!
An inspiring performer and an exceptional songwriter, Steve Seskin has been a Freight favorite since the 1970s. While scores of other artists have recorded his songs—an eclectic blend of humor and pathos, love songs and looney tunes—there's nothing like seeing and hearing Steve cast his spell in live performance. In addition to maintaining his Nashville songwriting career, with hits recorded by the likes of John Michael Montgomery, Waylon Jennings, and Tim McGraw, Steve recently saw his acclaimed song "Don't Laugh at Me" (co-written with Allen Shamblin) inspire the adoption of a character education curriculum in thousands of schools across the country.
In the past decade, Allen Shamblin has established a firm place for himself in the ranks of the great storytellers of country music. He has seen artists such as Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, and Bonnie Raitt record more than 100 of his vivid, earthy songs, including the Randy Travis chart-topping hit "He Walked On Water." Born in Tennessee and raised in Texas, Allen moved to Nashville in the late 1980s, signed on as a staff writer at Hayes Street Music/Almo Music Corp, and within nine months was making a name for himself with songs like "In This Life" and "I Can't Make You Love Me." His latest CD is Sunrise.
Chuck Jones was born in Memphis, Tennessee, where he starting soaking up blues, rock 'n' roll, and R&B from an early age. He studied classical guitar and spent years performing in a huge range of bands, from rock to funk to acoustic trios. After moving to Nashville and diving into songwriting, he was soon seeing his originals recorded by the likes of Ronnie Milsap, Patti LaBelle, Tanya Tucker, Deana Carter, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, and Reba McEntire.
