Dolly Parton called the Grascals' 2005 debut CD "One of the greatest albums I've ever listened to," and she should know! This hot young bluegrass band from Nashville has been attracting heaps of critical praise and just about every award you could care to name, from the International Bluegrass Music Association's 2006 Entertainer of the Year trophy to Grammy nominations for their first two CDs. Folks rave about their polished harmonies and instrumental prowess as wells as their soulful take on tradition that encompasses the players' broad experience in progressive bluegrass bands and the mingling of bluegrass and country music that is a hallmark of the Nashville scene.
The collective musical history of the Grascals—Terry Eldredge (lead vocals, guitar), Jimmy Mattingly (fiddle), Aaron McDaris (banjo), Jamie Johnson (guitar), Danny Roberts (mandolin), and Terry Smith (bass)—spans more than two decades of shared roots and crossed paths in bluegrass ensembles like the Osborne Brothers, Larry Cordle & Lonesome Standard Time, and New Tradition as well as Dolly Parton's Blue-niques. We're sure glad thay finally decided to form their own band! Tonight they spotlight tunes from their recently released CD, Keep On Walkin' (Rounder).
