An expressive singer, clever songwriter, and nimble guitarist, Larry Gallagher brings his versatile talents and poetic precision back to our stage tonight. And this time he's got a band! Richard Cohan, Rob Riddell, and Mike Burns accompany Larry on keyboards, bass, and drums, and just imagine: all three of them play noseflute, too.
As he demonstrates on his recent CD, Can I Go Now? Larry has an uncannily adept grasp of words, whether he's singing poignant love songs or poking pins in convention, and his vulnerable voice and wistful delivery provide a potent counterpoint to the ironic, sometimes edgy lyrics. A former journalist for Details, Esquire, and the New York Times Magazine, as well as a fallen monk, classically trained flutist, carpenter, and expert at reed-organ restoration, Larry's eclectic life is reflected in his wide-ranging music. Flitting between styles from jazz to ragas to torch ballads, Larry presents the universe according to himself with tunes that offer a disarming combination of wackiness and deep sensitivity. Just make sure you request his classic "Nothing Left to Pierce."
