Make sure you join New York-based singer-songwriter, Rachel Garlin, for an evening celebrating the release of her new CD Bound to be Mountains. Rachel, along with bassist Jon Evans, vocalist Green, and Michelle Goerlitz on percussion, brings us a fresh batch of her distinctive story songs and eloquent character portraits.
Since she left for "the other coast" several years ago, the former Berkeley resident has been performing at the Lower East Side's premier music halls and holding a regular gig in Greenwich Village. She's also been making CDs like nobody's business, including 2004's Big Blue Sky, recorded live at the Freight. One of Rachel's newest songs, "Wartime Gig," earned her a spot at the Telluride Troubadour showcase in Colorado. Other honors include a 2004 first-place award in the Newport Folk Festival Talent Search, and the inclusion of a song on the soundtrack of Field of Fuel, this year's Audience Choice winner at Sundance Film Festival.
Audiences from Albuquerque to Edinburgh have been drawn to Rachel's songs, with their fresh approach to themes both classic and contemporary, as well as to her whimsical commentary on the ironies of life.
