vital acoustic music of today
Door 7:30 P.M., Music 8:00 P.M. | Purchase advance tickets: $18.50

Do not pass go, do not collect $200: just come straight over to the Freight to check out this group tonight! In the forefront of a new generation inspired by old-time string band music, the Duhks offer an eclectic, divinely soulful take on tradition with live performances that pack enough power to blow the doors off every house in the greater Bay Area. Based in Manitoba, the group balances instrumental prowess and blues-influenced vocals with a decidedly contemporary attitude as they blend R&B, gospel, folk, Brazilian samba, country, zydeco, and Irish dance music with the fiddle traditions of their native Canada.

The Duhks feature Tania Elizabeth (fiddle), Jordan McConnell (guitar), Leonard Podolak (banjo), Scott Senior (percussion), and their newest member, vocalist Sarah Dugas. Since their formation in 2001, the Duhks have been steadily gaining momentum, with three acclaimed CDs and a truckload of awards. Their most recent release, Migrations (Sugar Hill), gained them a Grammy nomination for Best Country Vocal Performance, as well as a Canadian Folk Music Award for "Best Album—Contemporary" and an Americana Music Association nomination for Best Emerging Artists.
