cross-cultural jazz guitarist/vocalist w/ Barbara Higbie & George Brooks
Door 7:30 P.M., Music 8:00 P.M. | Purchase advance tickets: $18.50

Germany-born fusion guitarist, composer, and singer Leni Stern has reinvented her performing career several times. She first made a name for herself at 17, when she formed an acting company whose radical productions sold out houses across Europe. In 1977, she came to the U.S. to study at the Berklee College of Music, then moved to New York City where she gained a solid reputation as a rock and jazz guitarist before stepping out as a singer and balladic songwriter.

Leni is known for mixing elegant jazz moves with blue-toned, passionate balladry spiced with pop and world-beat influences. Darkly colored and direct, her songs are sometimes challenging, but always compelling in their emotional honesty; her rangy, vulnerable vocal style and subtle, expressive guitar work provide the perfect complement.

Tonight Leni presents songs new and old, including selections from from her new EP, 'Alu Maye (Have You Heard), which was inspired by a trip to Mali and weaves indigenous West African sounds through Leni's inventive music. But wait: there's more!  Leni is joined for the evening by two masterful musical guests, saxophonist George Brooks and Barbara Higbie on piano and violin.
