cello and voice duo pushing the boundaries of American roots music
Door 7:30 P.M., Music 8:00 P.M. | Purchase advance tickets: $18.50

Cello and vocal duo Bethany & Rufus push the boundaries of American roots music into fresh, unexpected territory. Exploring a place where intense groove meets sweet, heartbreaking soul, they combine modern jazz stylings with a gritty, unvarnished approach to folk music, inviting their audience to hear traditional songs like "St. James Infirmary" and "Linin' Track" with new ears.

In concert, as on their debut CD, 900 Miles, Bethany Yarrow's haunting, powerful vocals blend with the genre-bending cello playing of Rufus Cappadocia, rendering timeless songs with freshness and vitality. The daughter of famous folk singer Peter Yarrow, Bethany has a dramatic stage presence, a mesmerizing voice, and (of course) a deep knowledge of the material. Rufus, an eclectic cellist who has performed with folks from Aretha Franklin to Seamus Egan and Eileen Eivers, provides the instrumental backbone for the duo's stark, mesmerizing sound.
