Rick Di Dia and Aireene Espiritu pick, strum, stomp, slide, and sing their own brand of stripped-down americana. Drawing inspiration from a wealth of musical traditions, the duo conjures up their own route into timeless storytelling, referencing the blues, jazz, folk ballads, stomps, bluegrass, and field hollers. Rick's unique dulcimer-influenced lap-style guitar playing and Aireene's deep, earthy vocals lie at the heart of their performances, which also feature great harmony singing, Aireene's tenor ukulele work, and a fine balance between the pair's individual songwriting talents. The duo is currently working on a debut CD.
Blind Willies—fiddler Annie Staninec and guitarist/singer/songwriter Alexei Wajchman—explore the darker side of life with their stark, poignant tales and bare-bones style. Bluegrass, old time, and gypsy jazz fiddler Annie has performed with David Grisman's Gypsy Caravan, Darol Anger, and Crooked Still. As for Alexei, he's been called "a remarkable songwriter" by Jennifer Patton, editor of the popular online zine Delusions of Adequacy, who wrote of the duo's debut CD: "Blind Willies play incredibly wonderful music; I cannot urge fans of all sorts of folk music enough that they should not miss out on The Unkindness of Ravens."
