The power and passion of flamenco sets the Freight stage on fire tonight with the arrival of Mojácar. A dynamic group of flamenco artists, this LA-based trio offers a mesmerizing tour-de-force in which music and dance meld together in tight interplay. Intricate original compositions plucked by guitar master Stephen Dick are woven into powerful, seductive stage magic by the flowing gestures and fiery, syncopated steps of dancer/vocalist Katerina Tomás, with Johnny Sandoval driving the excitement along on percussion.
Mojácar was formed in Pasadena in 1997 by Stephen and Katerina, both of whom have been devoting themselves to flamenco for over 20 years. The group has toured America and Canada, performed in Spain, collaborated with artists from all over the world, and released a CD featured on NPR's Morning Edition. While they've released a number of albums including the recent Al Que Quiere, as you can imagine, the full emotional intensity of Mojácar is something that definitely demands to be enjoyed live!
