If you caught his opening sets for the past few Cheryl Wheeler concerts, you already know this: Kenny White is a singer-songwriter with a uniquely compelling voice, the sort of opener who leaves the audience wishing he'd play on for much, much longer. Tonight this urban storyteller returns to the Freight for another great solo show, spotlighting songs from his latest CDs, Symphony in 16 Bars (Wildflower) and Never Like This.
Sophisticated, poignant, and direct, Kenny's piano-based, impressionistic folk rock songs combine haunting melody with acid observation, delivered with a sweet, vulnerable voice and leavened with wry humor.
Long a noted producer, composer and pianist in his native New York City, where he worked with folks like Shawn Colvin, James Taylor, and Emmylou Harris, Kenny set out only a few years ago into the realms of singer-songwriterdom. Lucky for us!
