vital, exhuberant new roots/jazz guitar brilliance
Door 7:30 P.M., Music 8:00 P.M. | Purchase advance tickets: $17.50

Melodically captivating, technically awe-inspiring, and brimming with exuberance, the music that emerges from the instruments of the Marc Atkinson Trio is far from your ordinary gypsy swing guitar. Ferocious but elegant guitar-driven tunes are infused with a catchy blend of influences ranging from folk to jazz to classical to world beat, producing music that's both complex and welcoming. Working their magic on a repertoire that includes intriguingly arranged classics by folks from Duke Ellington to Chopin, as well as Marc's stunning originals, this Victoria, BC-based trio has been making waves since they formed in 2000. Their second album was voted one of the top five CDs of 2002 by Acoustic Guitar magazine, and their third CD, The Marc Atkinson Trio: III, has gained great critical acclaim as well.

Marc provides flawless, ceaselessly inventive lead guitar, backed by Chris Frye on rhythm guitar and Joey Smith on stand-up bass. Sizzlin'! And as fans of the acclaimed Canadian folk group, the Bills (of which Marc and Chris are founding members), already know, these guys are past masters at blending ferocious virtuosity with the good-humored, laid-back attitude of Canada's West Coast. So hop on board; you're sure to have an intriguing, unforgettable — and most of all, dang fun ride.
