Tonight, some of our area's very finest musicians, Butch Waller, Bob Waller, Keith Little, Ed Neff, Larry Cohea, and Steve Pottier, among others, celebrate the music of the father of bluegrass, Bill Monroe.

Born September 13, 1911, Monroe developed the music through a career that spanned 60 years as a singer, mandolinist, composer, and bandleader of the legendary Blue Grass Boys. Musicians around the globe continue to play his classic songs.

Monroe, who passed away in September of 1996, is the only musician who has been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Honor, and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Tonight's performers include mandolinist Butch Waller and guitarist Bob Waller, well-known to Freightgoers from their work with the classic bluegrass outfit, High Country. Multi-instrumentalist and singer Keith Little (High Country, the Vern Williams Band, Ricky Skaggs, Dolly Parton), fiery mandolin and fiddle stalwart Ed Neff (the David Thom Band, the Vern Williams Band), bass ace Larry Cohea (High Country, Bluegrass Intentions), and amazing flatpicking guitarist Steve Pottier (the Sunset Boys, the Avocado Brothers) are also featured. And who knows who else might stop by?
