old-time for our time
Door 7:30 P.M., Music 8:00 P.M. | Purchase advance tickets: $17.50

In the forefront of the many youthful groups who are reimagining old-time music for the new century, Uncle Earl has been making waves recently with their great playing and infectious energy. Nary an uncle -- nor an Earl -- to be found among them, this all-female quintet of stellar musicians plays dark tales of religious conflict and romantic betrayal, spiced with what Scott Alarik of the Boston Globe describes as "a brilliant, bewitching blend of hillbilly drive and modern sass." Combining traditional numbers learned from singers like Hazel Dickens and the Hammons Family and original tunes, the group brings undeniable charisma, sharp musicianship, and sweet sweet harmonies to bear on sizzling fiddle tunes, a capella gospel numbers, old "brother" duets, and much more -- all of it sounding both old as the hills and young as yesterday.

In concert and on albums like their recent She Waits for Night, (Rounder) members K.C. Groves, Kristin Andreassen, Abigail Washburn, Rayna Gellert, and Sharon Gilchrist each take a turn in the spotlight, trading instruments (guitar, mandolin, fiddle and banjo) and lead vocals with ease. This is a night of music you will not want to miss!
