Nary an uncle -- nor an Earl -- to be found among them, this all-female quintet of stellar musicians plays dark tales of religious conflict and romantic betrayal, spiced with what Scott Alarik of the Boston Globe describes as "a brilliant, bewitching blend of hillbilly drive and modern sass." Combining traditional numbers learned from singers like Hazel Dickens and the Hammons Family and original tunes, the group brings undeniable charisma, sharp musicianship, and sweet sweet harmonies to bear on sizzling fiddle tunes, a capella gospel numbers, old "brother" duets, and much more -- all of it sounding both old as the hills and young as yesterday.
