Power and inventiveness join forces with a gentle harmonious flow in the music of young Irish quintet, Grada. A refreshing recent addition to the new wave of Celtic bands that combine traditional tunes and instrumentation with contemporary drive, Dublin-based Grada employs double bass and percussion to underscore the rhythmic vitality of intertwining flute, guitar and fiddle.
Featuring Alan Doherty (whose flute playing was spotlighted on the soundtrack to the Lord of the Rings trilogy), Andrew Laking, Anne Marie O'Malley, Brendan O'Sullivan and Gerry Paul, the group is notable for the large quantity of contemporary and original material they play. Tonight they feature tunes from their latest album, The Landing Step (Compass), taking their influences from Irish, Breton, eastern European and other diverse regional styles.
