One of the true architects of modern bluegrass, Doyle Lawson has spent the past three decades plying his beautiful tenor vocals, dextrous mandolin, and masterful arranging skills to the music he loves. Early on he played with the likes of J.D. Crowe & the Kentucky Mountain Boys and the Country Gentlemen, but it was when he formed the groundbreaking band Quicksilver in 1979 that Doyle changed the face of modern bluegrass. Bringing gospel quartet singing back into the spotlight, the Quicksilver sound emphasizes smooth, intricate vocal harmonies and innovative song arrangements as well as intrumental prowess.
A model for many progressive bluegrass bands of the '80s and '90s, Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver have garnered multiple Grammy nominations and innumerable International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) awards, including five consecutive Vocal Group of the Year awards, not to mention the seven IBMA nominations the group got for their most recent album, You Gotta Dig a Little Deeper (Rounder). Doyle also recently released a 25th Anniversary video, Through The Years. Joining Doye this evening is his Quicksilver ensemble featuring Jamie Dailey on guitar, Terry Baucom on banjo, fiddler Mike Hartgrove, and Darren Beachley on bass.
