"I just want to put the Yo!' back in yodel," explains Seattle artist Laura Love, an acrobatic singer, songwriter, and bassist who has built a huge grassroots following with her infectious, thought-provoking musical concoctions of folk, bluegrass, gospel, blues, reggae, country, and hip-deep grooves. Tonight Laura plays it relatively straight as she teams up with Jo Miller, singer and guitarist of the much-loved alt-country group Ranch Romance, for an evening of -- you guessed it -- bluegrass music.
Beautiful harmonizing and a deep feeling for the intent of the songs makes the Jo/Laura Thang particularly memorable. Featuring tunes from their new album Jo Miller and Laura Love Sing Bluegrass and Old-Time Music, the two high-lonesome their way through a great array of classics like Bill Monroe's "Sittin' Alone In The Moonlight," the Delmore Brothers' "Blue Railroad Train" and Jimmie Rogers' "In My Dear Old Southern Home," backed by a hot band featuring Orville Johnson on guitar, dobro and mandolin and Corey Kaiser on upright bass.
