Lucky New York: they're about to get Rachel Garlin! Join this soon-to-be-
sorely-missed singer-songwriter and a great lineup of backing musicians
for a special send-off show before she embarks on the next phase of her
career in the Big Apple. A Freight favorite ever since her first show here,
Rachel combines eloquent character portraits, thought-provoking
perspectives, and slice-of-life storytelling with an evocative voice and a
warm, magnetic stage presence. A Berkeley native and former junior high
school teacher, she has spent the last several years touring full-time with
her three albums of original songs, the latest of which (Big Blue
Sky) was recorded live at the Freight. Rachel's distinctive songs,
which delve freshly into classic and contemporary themes, and her lyrical
imagery and instinctive musicality have led to an array of national
songwriting and performing honors, including the top prize at last year's
Newport Folk Festival.
