genre bending contemporary acoustic guitar artistry
Door 7:30pm, Music 8:00pm | Purchase advance tickets: $17.50

Three inspired musicians present an evening of acoustic guitar magic, featuring modern fingerstyle, jazz, new music and beyond.

Weaving together elements of folk, jazz, classical, and world music into a seamless style that is uniquely his own, Teja Gerken's playing reflects his diverse musical interests. Many of his compositions employ alternate tunings, two-handed tapping, and percussive effects; others simply rely on his keen sense of melody and movement. Teja's repertoire, while focusing on his fiery originals, is augmented by Irish traditionals, the occasional jazz standard, and improvisations on themes by classical composers. This summer, Teja released his second album, Postcards, which inspired Bridge Guitar Reviews to dub him "a superb guitarist who knows how to absorb a listener."

"The most important thing for me is authenticity and truthfulness in music," says Claus Boesser-Ferrari, who is considered one of the premier stylists of the German acoustic guitar scene. With a multi-layered approach that fuses jazz, blues, and contemporary rock themes with classical technique, Claus moves effortlessly from cool, intellectual lines to shimmering harmonies and rousing, archaic grooves. His latest solo album, Stageplay (Acoustic Music Records), consists of his compositions for various theater productions, featuring lucid melodies, heavy grooves, and avant-garde sensibilities, all played on the steel-string acoustic guitar.

Best known as the featured guitarist in Norah Jones' Handsome Band, Adam Levy played electric and acoustic guitars on her 2002 album Come Away with Me and the follow-up, Feels Like Home. With a reputation as a solid sideman, he's also worked with Tracy Chapman, Amos Lee and many others. Adam's keen compositions and adventurous playing have also made him a respected player's player on the jazz scene. Tonight he'll be performing some of his own music, as well as pieces by three of his favorite jazz composers, Bill Evans, Bill Frisell, and Billy Strayhorn.
