an a cappella fundraiser for tsunami relief
Door 7:30pm, Music 8:00pm | Purchase advance tickets: $19.50

Some of the Bay Areas leading a cappella and barbershop groups put their voices together to raise funds for victims of the southeast Asian tsunami disaster, with proceeds going toward the relief efforts of charitable organizations. Hosted by up-and-coming quintet Clockwork, the show also features the world/folk a cappella of Solstice, and Masterworks' barbershop harmonies -- maybe even a few surprise guests!

First runners-up at the A Cappella Harmony Sweepstakes national finals in 2004, Clockwork presents unaccompanied singing from a jazz point of view. John Paddock, Angie Doctor, Jim Hale, Stephen Saxon, and Eric Freeman range from beautiful ballads to complex harmonized bebop lines normally only performed by an experienced saxophone section. From Latin grooves to hip shuffles, their five superb voices, precise intonation and timing, and original arrangements make the audience forget that there are no instruments playing.

A female vocal ensemble specializing both in music written by women and for womens voices, Solstices music spans diverse genres, including classical, world, pop, jazz, and gospel, featuring Becca Burrington, Krista Enos, Sheryl Kaskowitz, Mari Marjamaa, Kim Warsaw, and Sara Webb, Solstice has a truly eclectic sound: their two acclaimed albums range from Macedonian folk songs to Cuban grooves to Chaka Khan numbers to Bela Bartok pieces, all sung with finesse, spirit, and infectious joy.

The show also features Masterworks, champions from the barbershop quartet world.
