Among the Freight's best-loved acts, Marley's Ghost achieves the seemingly impossible with its audacious blend of English folk roots and Jamaican reggae, not to mention gospel, country, R&B, even Scottish bagpipe tunes -- and it all works like a dream! (There's probably no other band around that could segue seamlessly between Bob Marley's "One Love" and Tim O'Brien's "Late In The Day", Bob Dylan's "Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat", and Van Morrison's "And It Stoned Me.")
A hotbed of multi-instrumental talent, the group features Jon Wilcox's mandolin, guitar and bouzouki, Mike Phelan's guitars, dobro and fiddle, Dan Wheetman's guitar, fiddle, bass, banjo, and blues harp, and Ed Littlefield's guitars, dobro, pedal steel guitar, and Highland bagpipes. With inspired four-part vocal harmonies, often sung a cappella, the quartet is a favorite on the festival circuit and on our stage, where they recorded their most recent album, Live at The Freight (Sage Arts).
