A unique meeting of musical and cultural roots, the Celtic Fiddle Festival brings together three of the world's finest traditional fiddle players for an evening of musical pyrotechnics. We can only hope the Freight's roof will not be blown off the building entirely as Ireland's Kevin Burke, Brittany's Christian Lematre, and Quebec's Andre Brunet, accompanied by Ged Foley on guitar, combine their awesome talent and regional traditions to conjure up an amazing performance, attested to by their live CD, just released by Green Linnet.

World-renowned Irish fiddle master, KEVIN BURKE plays in the soulful, fluid, highly ornamented style of County Sligo. Kevin has been a mainstay of several seminal Irish supergroups, from The Bothy Band to the all-star Irish group Patrick Street, and has toured and recorded with countless artists including Kate Bush, Arlo Guthrie, Paul Brady and Christy Moore. Born in London to Sligo parents, Kevin moved to Ireland in the 1970s. Now a resident of Portland, Oregon, Kevin was awarded the National Heritage Award in 2002, America's highest honor in the traditional arts.

Hailing from Brittany, the Celtic region in northwest France, CHRISTIAN LEMAITRE was one of the first to translate traditional Breton music to the fiddle. Having honed his playing at festou-noz (barn dances) throughout Brittany, he displays unerring control and propulsive energy on the hypnotically rhythmic Breton dance tunes. His lyrical style and repertoire show influences from southern and eastern Europe as well. Christian is a member of the outstanding Breton groups, Kornog and Pennou Skoulin.

ANDRE BRUNET, a wonderful young fiddle player from the acclaimed French-Canadian band La Bottine Souriante, joined the Celtic Fiddle Festival following the sad death of original member, Johnny Cunningham in 2003. Andre performs Quebec's unique blend of folk music originating from France, England, Ireland, and Scotland, imbued with the unique colors and rhythms of the region. A warm, dynamic performer as well as an excellent musician, Andr has a vast repertoire of French-Canadian jigs and reels.

GED FOLEY accompanies on guitar. Ged is well known in Celtic circles for his seminal work with Battlefield Band; his leadership of the House Band, and his recent membership in Patrick Street. A gifted singer and instrumentalist, Ged provides a strong and creative approach to rhythm guitar, and pushes the fiddlers to new heights of expression.

In concert, each fiddler plays a solo showcase of his regional musical style, followed by a collaborative set featuring all four musicians. Together, they play with such breathtaking virtuosity and fire that the tunes transcend all cultural and geographical barriers.
