Evocative songwriter and gifted vocalist, Claudia Russell celebrates the
release of her new CD, Ready to Receive, joined by her trusty
sidekick, Bruce Kaplan, on mandolin, guitar and vocals, and Carl Byron on
accordion and keyboards. A versatile musician with a sweet, expressive
voice, Claudia plays an eclectic folk style that's all her own, weaving
together blues, western swing, country, pop, and rock influences.
Roaming between soulful piano ballads, bluesy numbers, and a great
country-fied version of Smokey Robinson's "I Second That Emotion"
(complete with slide guitar), she draws from original compositions,
obscure gems, and folk and pop classics. Named Best New Artist of 2000
by Boston's renowned folk radio station, WUMB, Claudia has also been
selected twice as a finalist in the Kerrville New Folk songwriting
competition.
