Paul Arnoldi, a Santa Monica-based singer-songwriter who has been
performing at the Freight since the '60s, sits firmly within the American
acoustic tradition. Offering a blend of original and traditional folk and
Western music, Paul skillfully guides his listeners through an inspirational
panorama of fields, skies, and smoke-filled rooms. Last seen on the
Freight stage last summer, when he appeared with Phil Marsh, tonight Paul
features songs from his brand new CD, Paul Solo.
Paul began his career while a student at Harvard University, where he offered a unique musical contribution by blending his Wyoming prairie upbringing
with the traditional folk music being played in the now-famous
Cambridge/Boston folk music scene of the early 1960's. After relocating
to the west coast, Paul made a name for himself, performing his prairie-
influenced east coast-urban-folk music in the major bay area clubs of the
day.
Joining Paul tonight are Eric Thompson, guitar and mandolin, Polly Frizzell, viola, Robert Johnson, resonator guitar, and Steve Swan, bass.
