Our traditional holiday revue M.C., Laurie Lewis, left some awesome shoes to fill when her touring schedule forced her to be absent from this year's Holiday Revue -- fortunately, we found just the fellow for the job! Famed Celtic balladeer, DANNY CARNAHAN, steps in to host the exuberant family celebration, setting alight the longest night of the year with great music and food, an exchange of gifts, and a visit by the spirits of the season, not to mention some of the Bay Area's hottest performers donating their services in support of the Freight. Over more than three decades of playing Celtic music, Danny has made a name for himself with his singing and his multi-instrumental prowess in duos with Robin Petrie and with Chris Caswell, and in his current role as lead singer for the Freight's favorite Celtic/Grateful Dead fusion band, Wake the Dead. Danny's great vocals and masterful octave mandolin and guitar playing, not to mention his quick wit, always keep things lively at the Freight.
CAMOGIE brings Danny and three other stellar musical talents together into a harmony-drenched constellation that crackles with joyous energy. Along with Danny, Robin Flower and Libby McLaren, multi-instrumental trailblazers of Celtic Americana and internationally acclaimed Irish chanteuse, Mary McLaughlin, join forces for an eclectic set overflowing with soaring vocals and inspired instrumental interplay.
In the trio known as NORTON BUFFALO & FRIENDS, acclaimed harmonica virtuoso Norton is joined by Lisa Flores and David Aguilar, both on guitar and vocals, forming a tasty three-way blend of tones, rhythms, and harmonies as they range through the soulful terrain between blues, R&B and country music.
CASCADA DE FLORES return for another sizzling musical exploration of the love story between Cuba and Mexico. With beautiful vocal harmonies and instruments including guitars, flute, claves, maracas and cajon box drums, Arwen Lawrence de Castellanos, Jorge Liceaga, Sabra Weber and Jorge Mijangos win hearts while setting bodies in motion.
CAREN ARMSTRONG writes big, bouyant music straight from the heart, and then sends it aloft with her soaring vocals. This dangerously honest, wickedly funny, and disarmingly vulnerable songwriter hangs her lyrics on a blend of folk, country, blues, jazz, traditional and pop music. Caren will be joined by some stellar bay area songwriter, John Haley-Walker.
Tonight, the Freight is also honored to present international holiday favorite SANTA CLAUS as he graces our stage for the second year in a row in a dazzling performance brimming with laughter and good cheer. Celebrated in song and story for his twinkling eyes, rosy cheeks, and general joviality, Santa takes a break from his busy pre-Christmas schedule to oversee the distribution of gifts to young and old from under the Freight Christmas tree, with the assistance of one of his comical elves. Need we say more? Come on down!
