Don't miss California country rock and bluegrass legends Chris Hillman and
Herb Pedersen tonight, when they take the Freight for a rollicking back-
roads adventure through the vast territory they've charted in four
decades of music making.
Bluegrass mandolin player, fabulous
singer, and Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Famer, Chris cowrote some of the
cornerstone songs of the country-rock repertoire and played everything
from hippie psychedelia to jazz fusion as a member of beloved groups like
The Byrds, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Manassas, and the Desert Rose
Band, among many many others. Last year, he received a Lifetime
Achievement Award from the Americana Music Association in Nashville
(an honor shared by the likes of Johnny Cash and Emmylou Harris).
Fiery banjo picker and vocalist Herb Pedersen loaned his
impeccable musicianship and crystal clear tenor to well-known folk and
country music artists like the Dillards, the Laurel Canyon Ramblers, and
the Desert Rose Band. Tonight, these two old friends bring their superb
vocal skills, brilliant instrumentation, and top-notch songwriting to bear
on some truly great music, from the harmonies of Louvin Brothers duets
and original honky-tonk rockers to dance-hall waltzes and bluegrass
breakdowns, with a dash of Cajun and Tex-Mex thrown in for good
measure. You can hear them on several duo albums, including the recent
Way Out West (Back Porch), but Chris and Herb simply have to be
seen live!
