Formed in 1975 in the Glasgow suburb of Battlefield, the Battlefield Band has spent the past three decades offering their contagious version of "the real Scotland," a blend of songs old and new, played on a combination of ancient and modern instruments -- bagpipes, synthesizer, fiddle, guitar, flutes, bodhran and accordion.
Named "Best Live Act" at last year's Scots Trad Music Awards, the band's current lineup includes founding member, keyboardist and vocalist Alan Reid, 18-year-old fiddle prodigy and multi-instrumentalist Alasdair White, Highland piper Mike Katz, and singer and guitarist Pat Kilbride, a major songwriting talent rejoining the band after a 25-year absence. Tonight, the foursome pull the Freight audience "forward with Scotland's past" -- clapping and stomping all the way -- with beautiful ballads and raucous reels from their latest album, Out for the Night (Temple), and other gems drawn from their long history.
