"I just want to put the 'Yo!' back in yodel," explains Seattle artist Laura Love, an amazingly acrobatic singer, songwriter, and funk bassist whose infectious, thought-provoking musical concoctions of folk, bluegrass, gospel, blues, reggae, country, and hip-deep grooves have been described as "Afro-Celtic" and "Hip-alachian". Tonight, Laura celebrates the recent release of her new CD, You Ain't Got No Easter Clothes (KOCH), the companion album to her newly published memoir by the same name (Hyperion Books). A testiment to the powerful spirit that helped her transcend an isolated, poverty-stricken childhood, Laura's music has attracted a powerful grassroots following, and has regularly been included in Billboard Magazine's annual top ten lists; she was also included in Utne Reader's 2003 "Artists Who Will Shake the World." Laura is joined tonight by her longtime collaborator Jen Todd, whose dusky, bluesy voice and energetic guitar augment the intense power of Laura's chant-filled, funk-inflected songs. Australian trio, Fruit, opens with beautiful harmonies and an unstoppable Adelaide groove.
