Bay area "all-body band," Slammin' brings down the house once again with its fresh mix of vocals, beat boxing, and body music that pushes a cappella music so far outside the box that it is practically over the edge. Unplugged and thoroughly unleashed, this ensemble skillfully explores the ability of the body to amaze us in the most musical of ways as they perform a repertoire that ranges from Miles Davis to Sly Stone to techno tango, spiced with lightning-fast improvisation, gorgeous harmonies, and percussive dance.
The sextet combines the diverse talents of four vocalists -- Bryan Dyers' deep bass, Zoe Ellis' dramatic, colorful voice, Kenny Washington's four-octave range and classic scat style, and Destani Wolf's raw belting and rhythmic energy inspired by Latin music, hip hop, and reggae -- with dazzling beat boxing (drum machine embodiment) by Steve Hogan and group leader, Keith Terry's innovative percussion and rhythm dancing.
The group's members are well-known to Bay Area audiences, as performers with the Crosspulse Percussion Ensemble, SoVoSo, O Maya, Streetsounds, Kotoja, and Professor Terry's Circus Band Extraordinaire. An additional dimension is explored by the ensemble's impromptu audience pieces, intricate improvisations that transform viewers into an interactive chorus -- come prepared for inspiration!
