Two guitar masters present an evening of original duos and solos in a blues and ragtime vein and early jazz material by neglected greats like Freddie Keppard and Lovie Austin, performed on guitar, Hawaiian steel guitar, and ukulele.
Duck Baker is a solo fingerstyle guitarist devoted to a wide range of musical styles, from traditional Irish and Appalachian fiddle tunes to ragtime, blues, swing, and modern jazz. He has demonstrated the wide range of his musical interests for Bay Area audiences by the guitarists with whom he has appeared over the years, from English folk-baroque hero John Renbourn to fingerpicking icons like Leo Kottke and acoustic jazz master Jamie Findlay.
Duck's newest duo partner is Ken Emerson, the Hawaiian steel guitar, ukulele, slack-key, and blues specialist. Ken came of age in Honolulu in the 70's, performing with legendary island musicians including Gabby Pahinui, Ray Kane, and Auntie Alice Namakelua. A recent album, Hawaiian Hulas, Tangos, and Blues (Hanaola Records), shows off Ken's flair for the virtuosic Hawaiian steel style.
