Combining a superb poetic imagination and an alluring, rootsy mixture of folk, gospel, and country styles, Brooklyn-born, Cambridge-based singer-songwriter Kris Delmhorst plays what she describes as "songs with pavement under their feet, dirt under their fingernails, and sometimes out of sight of land altogether." In the eight years since she began performing, she has made her presence felt in the acoustic music scene, touring the country, winning first place at the 2001 Telluride Bluegrass Festival's prestigious Troubadour Competition and three nominations in the 2002 Boston Music Awards, including best singer-songwriter album for the recording, Five Stories. Whether she's singing delicate ballads, back-porch foot-stompers, or midnight lullabies, Kris's charm, intelligence and warm, expressive voice illuminate her music with grace. Tonight, Kris features numbers from her new album, Songs for a Hurricane (Signature).
