Singer-songwriter Rachel Garlin combines fresh images, thought-provoking perspectives, and slice-of-life storytelling, with a strong, evocative voice and a warm, magnetic stage presence. Outgoing and dedicated to inspiring in others the same passion for language that she holds dear, this teacher-turned-troubadour celebrates the release of her third album, Big Blue Sky, recorded live at the Freight! She'll be joined for the event by an exciting lineup of musical cohorts, including multi-instrumentalist, Julie Wolf.
Combining resonant imagery from teaching, traveling, and touring (most recently in Europe) with her down-home sense of whimsy and irony, Rachel's performance is an invitation to listeners to engage life with open-eyed imagination and insight. The winner of the 2004 Newport Folk Festival's Talent Search and a 2004 Kerrville New Folk finalist, Rachel also won a prestigious main stage slot at the Newport Folk Festival last summer.
