Arty McGlynn & Nollaig Casey
Monday, September 29, 2003

Door 7:30pm, Music 8:00pm | Purchase advance tickets: $15.50

Husband-and-wife duo Nollaig Casey and Arty McGlynn share, between them, over 40 years playing at the cutting edge of Irish music with the likes of Planxty, De Dannan, Mary Black, and Van Morrison. In combination, their rich mix of talent and experience leads them in progressive directions, blending traditional Irish music with a variety of influences, yet their playing is always imbued with a deep love and understanding for the music and its origins. Guitarist Arty, from County Tyrone, is renowned for his unique, jazz- and blues-informed rhythmic and harmonic approach that continually challenges traditional musical boundaries. One of Ireland's most gifted fiddlers, County Cork native Nollaig's playing combines classically trained technique and beautiful lyricism. On recordings like their acclaimed 1995 album Causeway (Tara) and on stage, the duo play with uncanny affinity, Nollaig's richly expressive fiddle work accentuated by Arty's elegant harmonies and complex cross-rhythms.
