Da Vinci's Notebook
Wednesday, September 17, 2003

Door 7:30pm, Music 8:00pm | Purchase advance tickets: $15.50

Award-winning Washington, DC-based a cappella quartet Da Vinci's Notebook (aka DVN) brings soaring vocals and a wild sense of the absurd to bear in their take-no-prisoners songs, skewering everything from road rage and pretentious rock icons to weight-loss schemes and pickled okra. In performance and on albums like their recent Brontosaurus, DVN proves that a band can be musically memorable, hilariously funny, and full of charm -- all without the aid of instruments. Greg "Storm" DiCostanzo, Richard Hsu, Bernie Muller-Thym and Paul Sabourin have spent the past decade developing the outrageous style and clever parodies that won them the Mid-Atlantic Harmony Sweepstakes and several Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards for Best Humorous Song (notably for "Liposuction," a bluegrass ode to elective surgery). Be warned: the quartet are infamous for their "absolutely-anything-goes" live performances, featuring on-the-spot requests, improvised lyrics, conga lines, and the occasional Britney Spears imitation.
