village folk music
an authentic Hungarian folk music experience

Door 7:30pm, Music 8:00pm | Purchase advance tickets: $16.50

One of Hungary's most exciting folk ensembles, Duvo presents authentic village music from Hungary, Transylvania and Slovakia. Formed three decades ago in the northern Hungarian city of Salgótarján, Duvo has become a repository for the area's rich folk traditions. Its members have dedicated their lives to collecting music from the great masters of remote villages in the region, and passing it on to the rest of the world with ardor and enthusiasm. Stellar multi-instrumentalists Denes Hruz, Szabolcs Hruz, Ferenc Andrassy, Istvan Nagy, and Gergely Toth each switch off among a wide array of traditional instruments, including the violin, chord viola, koboz (lute), furulya (flute), hurdy-gurdy, and cimbalom (hammered dulcimer), in a colorful performance that doubles as an ethnomusicological lesson on the history of Central and Eastern Europe. Duvo has performed and taught throughout Europe and at folkdance camps in North America; this is their first American concert tour.
