In 1962, mandolinist Butch Waller, banjo player Herb Pedersen, and guitarist David Nelson -- all graduates of St. Mary's High School in Berkeley -- formed one of California's first bluegrass bands, the Pine Valley Boys. After making a name for themselves on the local scene, the three parted ways to add their musical talents to different contemporary country and bluegrass bands -- Butch with High Country, Herb with the Desert Rose Band and the Laurel Canyon Ramblers, and David with the New Riders of the Purple Sage. Two years ago Butch, Herb, and David reunited, breaking a 20-year hiatus, but their performances as the Pine Valley Boys remain all too few and far between: don't miss this rare opportunity to catch the fine vocals and top-notch playing of these Bay Area bluegrass pioneers! |
