Pianist and composer Ellen Hoffman returns to the Freight for an evening of solo piano excursions, joined along the way for some duos and trios by vocalist Anna DeLeon and Melecio Magdaluyo on clarinet. Ellen's background is in jazz, classical, popular, and musical theatre, with a dash of ragtime, a touch of the blues, ten years playing with the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir, and the past four years with the Berkeley Broadway Singers.
A prolific orchestral composer and jazz songwriter, Ellen's music has been performed nationally by groups as diverse as the Atlanta Symphony, the Buffalo Philharmonic, and the Oakland Symphony Chorus. Tonight, she will feature classics from the Great American Song Book, as well as more contemporary works by the likes of Sting and Paul Simon. |
