Born and raised in Lost Cabin, Wyoming, in 1936, fourteen year-old Buck Page grabbed a guitar and started his ride into western music history. Soon he had formed the Riders of the Purple Sage, named after the famous western novel by Zane Grey. The Riders quickly rose to fame, with national radio shows and top engagements throughout the country, and saw their songs like "Ghost Riders in the Sky," "Blue Shadows on the Trail," "Cool, Clear Water," "Tumbling Tumbleweeds," and "Have I Told You Lately That I Love You" become standards. Eventually settling in Southern California, Buck followed the rodeo circuit, raised quarter horses, acted in more than 200 movies, and continued his career with the Riders. Now, at the dawn of the 21st century, Buck is still on the scene doing what he loves to do best, singing the western songs that he (and we) grew up with and entertaining people throughout the world. The current Riders also include Cody Bryant on fiddle, banjo and guitar, Mike Ley on bass, Steve Swartout on drums, and Mike Johnstone on pedal steel. Recently these masters of authentically beautiful Western harmonies released Living the Cowboy Dream (WagonWheel), a collection of traditional tunes and new songs about the modern-day cowboy. |
