The San Francisco Guitar Quartet has been distinguishing itself as a
cutting-edge ensemble since 1997, performing contemporary and classic works
with finesse and flawless technique. Mark Simons, Christopher Hanford, David
Dueñas, and Patrick Francis are all distinctive soloists and chamber
musicians who break stunning new ground when they play as a foursome.
From
an Afro-Brazilian dance by Paulo Bellinati to Bach's Third Brandenburg
Concerto to a complex, gypsy-inspired piece written by Yugoslavian-born
composer Dusan Bogdanovic, SFGQ chooses compositions that allow space for
exploration and interaction, bringing musical influences from all over the
world into their program. Their debut recording, Black Opal, released last
year, features works by contemporary composers like Leo Brouwer, Carlo
Domeniconi, Phillip Houghton, and Celso Machado. |
