France's leading musical visionary, Gabriel Yacoub's innovatively blends musical elements from contemporary and medieval Europe. A deep-delving songwriter, he incorporates ancient instruments and world percussion and harmonics into his captivating originals. Born in Paris, Gabriel first came to public attention in the early 70s playing with Brittany's pioneering Celtic harpist, Alan Stivell. He, then, formed his own band, Malicorne, widely regarded as the finest flowering of the 1970s French folk revival.
Launching his career as a solo artist in the 1980s, he began experimenting with new sounds and more personal themes, yet continued to draw on his background in traditional music. In concert, his lyrical guitar arrangements and elegant tenor voice explore gripping, genre-blending material from his numerous acclaimed albums, particularly last year's The Simple Things We Said.
