Led by genial Nigerian master musician, Ken Okulolo, the Nigerian Brothers, top contemporary musicians with deep roots in traditional African music, bring West African folk melodies, "palmwine" tunes, and highlife songs to life with beautifully harmonious voices, African guitar stylings, and hand percussion. The four - Ken, who plays guitar and talking drum, Soji Odukobge, guitar and shekere sticks, Lemi Barrow, shekere and hand drum, and Pope Flyne, percussion - comprise the core of the popular Bay Area ensemble, West African Highlife Band.
Tonight they unplug and recreate the sweet, lilting sounds of their earliest village memories. Their gentle but rhythmic music, ranging from lilting lullabies to dance-inspiring tunes and energetic anthems, is a special treat for those who seek an authentic sound, offering to all the universal healing magic of African music. In 2001 the Nigerian Brothers released a beautiful debut album, Songs of the Village.
